, market leader in providing translations and subtitles to the audio-visual sector, is launching a COMPETITION for the making of a SHORT FILM on the topic of:


SUBTITLING AND LINGUISTIC SPECIFICITY
THE USE OF SUBTITLING IN CINEMA
AS A VEHICLE FOR MULTICULTURALITY


SUB-TI has long been committed to promoting the culture of the subtitle as an instrument which favours intercultural dialogue and the awareness of new and diverse artistic expressions. It provides subtitles for film festivals the world over, with the specific intention of respecting the integrity and the linguistic uniqueness of the film.

Via the competition, which will become an annual event, SUB-TI aims to further its mission, while at the same time offering an exceptional opportunity to young directors and film students.

The winning short film will be screened before the features selected for the international festivals of which SUB-TI is a partner, starting from the next edition of Giornate degli Autori, a section of the Venice Film Festival.

The competition is open to all directors, aspiring film-makers film students and media studies undergraduates of all nationalities.

To participate, just send the following BY MAY 31st 2009:

  • a DVD containing one or more short films to be entered in the competition
    (the duration of each short should not exceed 45 seconds)
  • detailed CVs of all those who worked on the film
  • the particulars and contact details of at least one of the film-makers
    (date of birth, address, telephone number and email address)
  • a brief outline of the short by the director

An international jury made up of directors, screenwriters and critics will assign the award to the short film which best illustrates the premise of the competition. SUB-TI will print the winning short onto film and it will then be officially presented in a press conference to take place in Rome, Italy in late July 2009.
